Born in Dundee and raised in Glasgow, Dan Barbenel is a pianist/singer-songwriter currently based in Brussels.
He studied piano at the Royal Scottish Academy under Elizabeth Jacobs, and social anthropology (MA) at Cambridge.
Among other jobs he has worked as a cocktail pianist on a private island in Japan, cave musician in the Pyrenees and costumed guide in haunted castles.
His repertoire is resolutely diagonal, by turn satirical, romantic and scientific, recalling the best moments of Monty Python, Brecht and Weil and Divine Comedy.
He also makes music for film, theatre and is a founder-member of the Bruxelles-Aires Tango Orchestra.
